Our pearled barley is a versatile product. This is barley that has had its tough outer hull removed and then been polished down to make it easier to cook with. Pearl barley is great to add to soups, stews, risottos, and makes a great hot cereal in the mornings. Pearl barley is a great way to add fiber to your diet. This is a great substitute for rice. This is a must have for your long term food storage.
Ingredients: Pearl Barley. No preservative added.
Packaged in a plant that handles milk, wheat, eggs, soy, and tree nut products.
Shelf Life: Should be stored in a cool place of 60 degrees or less to achieve rated storage life. Warmer temperature will slightly decrease storage life.
Directions: In medium saucepan with lid bring 3 cups water to a boil. Add 1 cup pearl barley and return to boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and cook 45 minutes or until barley is tender and the liquid is absorbed. Makes about 3-3/4 to 4 cups.
Packaging: Food is packaged in a large mylar bag with oxygen absorbers inside a 5 gallon food grade HDPE bucket with a gasketed lid.
NOTE: Pearl barley may be cooked ahead and stored for a short time prior to using. Place cooked barley in an airtight container and refrigerate or freeze for up to a week. For best results, bring refrigerated or frozen barley to room temperature before using.
